The Patient Account Representative performs operational responsibilities within the revenue cycle and resides in the business office. The position will be responsible for a variety of duties including patient account resolution, charge entry, insurance account follow-up and insurance payment application for multiple payers. The business office acts as a patient advocate by providing information on health insurance, insurance billing, and the reimbursement process to patients as well as working directly with the Dermatology Consultants, providers and staff in areas that impact the revenue cycle. A patient account representative will be assigned daily responsibilities; however, will have a strong understanding of all the main functions of the revenue cycle.

Starting Pay Range:
$21 – $28 per hour
Duties:
• Insurance payment application including payment, denial and remit posting
• Pre-collections – call patients regarding past due balances, sending letters as needed
• Perform Billing and Collections duties
• Process insurance denials and file appeals
• Transaction and data entry posting (adjustments, denials, reversals, etc.)
• Verify insurance eligibility
• Review and process return mail
• Review and process cash and bank deposits
• Editing and entry of daily charges from our dermatology providers as needed
• Maintain understanding of policies and procedures of the entire Business office
• Answer the Business Office phone line and provide patient-centered customer service
• Protect patient confidentiality
Minimum Requirements:
• Knowledge of healthcare billing, medical claim reopening, and claim appeal process
• Experience with payer reimbursement policies, ERA and paper check posting, and payer remittance advice
• Strong knowledge of collection laws and practices
• Ability to audit and understand multiple payment accounts
• Strong knowledge of Excel
• High attention to detail and data accuracy
• 2+ years’ experience in a healthcare business office setting
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
• Ability to use practice management software (Cerner) and EHR system (Encite)
• Strong technology skills including using computer software, MS Office, fax, copier, printer
• Ability to use fingers/hands for data entry and phone work up to 8 hours daily
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisor, clinical staff, and providers
Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, days
