There are many options for teenage acne, depending on the type and extent of the acne. There are many over the counter washes and topical preparations with salicylic acid, glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These can sometimes cause dryness or irritation.  If the acne persists, there are many different combinations of prescription topical creams that can be tried. Finally, for severe, cystic or scarring acne or acne not responsive to topical measures, different oral medications may be tried.  A newer treatment involving blue or red light therapy can also be considered.
