Founded in 1949, Dermatology Consultants’ mission is to provide exceptional skin care in a safe and welcoming environment. As an organization, we support workplace wellness by promoting health and wellness throughout the company.
In 2018 we began working with our workplace wellness partners HealthSource Solutions and Willis Tower Watson to shape and launch our budding wellness program. With their guidance, we built the foundation of our workplace wellness program, Thrive, to share our messages and address wellbeing challenges for our staff and teams.
Today, Thrive is fully integrated into our overall company culture! So much so that Dermatology Consultants has been recognized as a national standard Top Workplace in 2022, 2021, and 2019. We have also been recognized as a mspWellness Champion for our dedication to workplace wellness.
The Five Pillars of Thrive
1. Physical Wellness
We give free flu shots on site to keep our employees physically healthy. We also educate about health and provide interesting newsletters to supplement our educational initiatives. We offer smoking cessation support, and resources through our health insurance plan Blue Cross Blue Shield including diabetes management, the Omada Program to help those with metabolic syndrome make behavioral changes, maternity support and discounts on fitness programs. We offer a monthly step tracking challenge through Blue Cross and Sharecare where employees can earn $$ incentives for walking 7500 steps per day.
2. Mental Wellness
We provide access to the Blue Cross Learn to Live program which gives staff tools for self-paced, at-home exploration of mental health conditions and therapeutic techniques to conquer them. We have an employee assistance program to address key issues that impact physical and mental wellness. We provide chair massages to help reduce stress and promote overall wellbeing.
3. Community Involvement
In the community, we sponsor the Twin Cities Marathon to promote physical wellness. In our offices, we host cosmetic open houses to encourage people to address any issues they may have with their skin’s appearance and feel their best. We offer annual free skin cancer screenings and participate in health fairs to raise awareness about skin cancer and dermatologic conditions. Our staff has the opportunity to give back to the community too by participating in our volunteer initiatives with Feed My Starving Children and Toys for Tots. And as a practice, we also make charitable donations.
4. Financial Wellbeing
We offer a comprehensive retirement plan for our staff along with total reward systems and financial resources. Employees are auto-enrolled in a 401k. Dermatology Consultants has a certified financial planner available for all employees to consult with free of charge.
5. Workplace Engagement
We have all-staff meetings to foster teamwork and workplace relationships. We hold Employee Appreciation Week each year and a Recognizing You! program, an engagement survey, potlucks, site-specific activities, a holiday party and a “Friday Email” from the CEO to keep employees up to date. Additionally, we provide CPR certification to employees. We have a set of core values and standards of behavior for a healthy workplace.
Our physicians and staff recognize and talk positively about Thrive. Our staff has enjoyed many wellness activities throughout the years, such as:

Thrive is so successful that our employee participation has increased more than 10% each year!
Participation in Thrive is completely voluntary but we encourage our employees to join in to connect with coworkers and have fun, as well as increase personal wellness. We hope all new employees will see how Thrive lets our staff connect with one another in support of health and wellness for all who work at Dermatology Consultants.
